Prescott has an interesting history. In 1864, it became the first capital of the Arizona Territory. Known for its infamous "Whiskey Row", the town saw such characters as Wyatt Earp and Doc Holliday. Adding to its historic allure, Prescott features over eight hundred buildings on the National Register of Historic Buildings, one of which is the newly restored Elks Opera House. Built in 1905, the Elks Opera House has been revitalized to host a wide variety of events from music to theater.
History buffs will also appreciate the Smoki Museum. This American Indian art and culture center houses an impressive permanent collection that features 4,000-year-old artifacts, historical Yavapai baskets and Prescott culture pottery. Special exhibits feature contemporary paintings and crafts from eclectic mediums and tribal backgrounds. The museum also holds special speaking events, auctions and demonstrations.
To experience a deep-rooted Prescott tradition, visit the World's Oldest Rodeo. Held every summer since 1888, the rodeo is a local and tourist favorite. That old-fashioned image of the western cowboy isn't just a fable in this part of Arizona.

This Victorian style home currently houses the Sharlot Hall Museum store, exhibiting panels and artifacts detailing the history of the home.
